[personal profile] sage posting in [community profile] alternate_ds_c6d
Hello AU-Makers!! We hope you're having a ton of fun exploring your alternate universes! The posting weekends are coming in 7, 17, and 27 weeks, so you have LOTS of time yet to work on your various works! YAY!

If you have ANY questions at all, please ask! If you need help or want to recruit cheerleaders, betas, advice from people with specialized knowledge, and so forth, you're absolutely welcome to do that in the comments below. OR if you simply need a place to celebrate a breakthrough or to vent about how things aren't going as planned, you can do that, too.

CHAT NOTICE! Luzula posted a poll on doing brainstorming/support chats! If you missed it, plz go and vote so she can get that organized.

Optional Questions:
What are you making/going to make?
How far have you gotten?
What was the first DS-C6D show/film you ever saw? Most recent? Which has stayed with you longest?

Good luck, everybody! The next check-in post will be in 2 weeks. :)

Answering the optional questions at this juncture!

ButterflyGhost and I are doing a collab on a dS fic.

We have decided in which AU to set it. Written a few bits and pieces that don't connect to each other at all yet.

S & A was my first, in 2009...followed by first seeing dS in 2010.

IDEK how to answer "most recent"...there are so many all smished together in my brain after 2010.

Bears! Bears! Bears... Oh wait, no, still plenty of time. Hee.

Y'know what, I think I need to spend some quality time with my source. :D

This morning I was going to say that I was stuck at exactly the same place I was for the last check-in, but… inspiration struck this afternoon! Now I have a thousand words of Fraser and RayK running around having adventures with bootleggers and Al Capone ;)

Most recent C6D show I saw: well, I discovered Slings & Arrows last week, so that's pretty recent. Now I just wish there were more seasons...

I am very fond of Slings & Arrows, but this hits me right in a pet peeve: I generally dislike sequels to things that had definite arcs and endings. Or, rather, if you have a new story to tell about these characters or this world that takes place next, great. But S&A wrapped up in a way that basically destroyed the universe, as far as telling more stories with these characters in this setting goes -- and because it's so arc-y, it doesn't leave a lot of room for large stories (of the same type) set within the timeline of the original seasons, either.

More is not always better!

I realize that this is an eccentric position for a writer of fanfic to hold. It's among the reasons that I never thought I'd end up writing fanfic. :) But it's not entirely inconsistent: I know of no S&A fic that writes a season 4 with the same old folks at New Burbage. Fic tells different sorts of stories than the original TV show, so it doesn't necessarily have all the same sequel problems.

I have bits and pieces written down, but I think I need to sit down and figure out a timeline, and maybe rewatch some dS episodes to get a grip on the voices. Surprisingly, the worldbuilding, which I thought would be hardest, is turning out to be not actually all that difficult, but apparently I find it hard to do the voices right in an alternate universe - something I usually have little trouble with.

I've only written a few hundreds words since the last check-in, because I got inspired to do various other shorter things instead.

How about you? Any inspiration? : )

I've seen your "shorter things" and I approve ;)
I'm hoping inspiration will hit some time soon, at the moment it's like pulling teeth.

It was fun to write some shorter things! I think I needed that after the holiday exchanges. Don't get me wrong, I like being challenged and having a deadline to make myself more focused, but writing short whimsical stuff is good too.
