Due South & C6D AU Play Day!

WELCOME to our DS-C6D Alternate Universe Play Day! To play, simply grab one or more of the 86 prompts from the initial brainstorming list and do something with it! This is open to everyone, no minimums, no betas needed, no pressure -- just PLAY!

ANY type of fanwork is welcome as long as you somehow convey that there's an alternate universe involved. Sample work types include but aren't limited to: fic, art, vids, podfic, manips, mixed media, yarncraft, six word stories, limericks, thumbnail doodles, paperclip sculptures, mashed potato sculptures, one-sentence-fic, etc.

You can play as many times as you want. You can use as many prompts (as many times) as you want. Please put different AUs into different comments (eta: Unless you're doing something like one-sentence-fic of a zillion separate prompts. Use your best judgment!)

When you're ready, put your work in a comment to this post using the following format:

In the subject line: Fandom; AU; Rating; Relationships
For example: Due South; Animal transformation AU; Mature; FKV

If your work has triggery content, put a brief content warning/advisory in the first line of your comment, right at the top. If you want to choose not to warn, put "Author chooses not to warn". If there's nothing to warn for, skip this.

Make sure your work is going in a reply to this post instead of a reply to someone else's comment!

It's Fraser/Kowalski and it's huge, like 17,000+ words. I'm so sorry. I was sure it'd run about 10,000, and then it was over 21,000, and I gutted it by about a quarter, then had to add a bit during the re-work, so... yeah.

I think it mostly makes sense, and it might not be terrible, but I've got to the point where I've edited and re-worked and re-read this bad boy so many times I barely know what I'm looking at anymore, so yeah, a fresh pair of eyes would be swell.

Anybody want to give it a shot?

ETA: I know most folkette here are busy finishing their projects for the final posting weekend, so I think I'll post this to my own journal and see if some brave soul can step in. ;)

ETA to ETA: We have a winner! boxofdelights has courageously volunteered. :D

So, I've just torn out about 25% of what I wrote for my AU fic. OMG....

It was supposed to be very plotty and a bit of a whodunnit, and that had shaped up pretty nicely, but all of a sudden this morning the whole fic just seemed bloated, and the dual POV I've been working with all along seemed Wrong, All Wrong, and gutting commenced.

It's not that I didn't like the scenes I'd written. I was quite happy with each of them, which makes it that much harder to dump them. /o\

I've spent the whole day smoothing out the jagged edges left behind and hoping this will work. It will obviously give the story a much different feel, and it won't be the plotty crime story I set out to write, but if what I've done was the right thing to do, it will be a better story anyway. I hope. :P

I have, of course, kept the previous ungutted version of the story intact, in case this doesn't work out. I'm not crazy. But I do have to doubt my good sense in ripping it apart like this with two weeks to go, and hoping to send it off to a beta next week.

I'm not the only person who puts herself through this kind of nonsense, am I?

Our final deadline is in eight weeks, and then we will be done and it will have been a fabulous trip for all of us through soooo many wonderful alternate universes! We are so excited about what everyone's making. This is going to be excellent!

Congratulations to everyone who posted this past weekend! YAY YOU! We're so glad you're playing and we hope you're having fun! I've posted an index of everything that went up this weekend at the LJ & DW DS comms, but you're still entirely welcome (and encouraged!) to post links to your work (and recs to works in the challenge) wherever you want. :)

We have just under ten weeks left until the last deadline: August 30 to September 1st. As always, feel free to use this space to vent, celebrate, cheer others on, request help, post daily/weekly/hourly progress reports, and so forth.

Questions! How's it going? If you posted a complete work this weekend, are you aiming to post something else for our last deadline? If you posted a teaser, YAY! Have you made any more progress on the rest of the work? Are you happy with your project(s)? Are you enjoying it?
