Caroline miscarried in her seventh month of pregnancy. Bob was out on patrol, and there was no point contacting the mid-wife - what's done was done. Three days later, in the grip of a fever, Caroline followed a strange, flickering light into the woods and found an infant dressed in swaddling clothes.
When Bob came home a week later, she told him the boy was their child.
